New York is divided into 62 counties. The five Boroughs of New York City are classified as five separate Counties. Each county, with the exception of the five boroughs, is sub-divided into numerous towns, villages, cities, etc. Permit and Fire information is typically obtained at the town, village, etc. level. Aerial photographs and other historical resources are typically obtained at the county level with limited aerials available at towns, villages, etc.
